SPANISH LEARNING IN SOSUA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Students visiting Sosua will find a wide range of options for their vacation in terms of lodging, transportation, tours, food, drinks and historic sites. Many hotels, B&B`s and small lodges offer fairly priced lodging, some including breakfast. Many international restaurants are found in El Batey, the main town district.

A large expat population has fueled a variety of international food outlets, specially from Germany, Canada, United States, Italy and UK. Sosua offers several of the most beautiful beaches in the North coast.

Founded by a fleeing colony of Jewish refugees back in the 1940`s, the town later became a well known tourist destination in the mid 1980`s. Among interesting landmarks to visit while in Sosua, we recommend Piergiorgio Palace hotel, a Victorian-style oceanfront hotel, bar and restaurant perched on a rock by the ocean and offering splendid vistas.

The beach in Sosua is a crescent-moon shaped bay of golden sand and turquoise blue water, flanked on the right side by the Sosua Bay Resort & Victorian House, and to the left by a row of private beach homes.

The beach has a promenade of countless bars, restaurants and gift shops, where great food and drinks can be enjoyed with your feet in the sandy beach. The Jewish museum is also an attraction that opens a door to the lives of the first settlers of Sosua, which gradually moved from a dairy farmers economy to a more robust, tourism-oriented town.

El Batey is the main center of town, and it has grown in the past 20 years with large and small hotels, many of which are now replaced by a new type of tourism that rents or buys villas and oceanfront condos. Spanish classes are demanded by many travelers to Sosua, specially the ones that decide to return or keep a more permanent footprint in the area.

Los Charamicos, which is the oldest part of town, is home to many locals who mostly work for the resorts and restaurants in town.

Several gated communities built around Sosua are the home of expats who brought German and Canadian building technology to the North coast, resulting in a very diverse and high quality residential homes of all known styles. Places like El choco and the Cabarete Lagoon are the main ecologically friendly areas.

A long
list of tours in Sosua make it a very attractive destination for tourists from all over the world that come every year. Spanish students will find Sosua to be a very nice town to relax, learn a new language and culture, and meet lots of new friends.
